🪟 BAY WINDOW + ANGLED WINDOW — HOW SHOULD THE CURTAINS BE DONE?

🪟 BAY WINDOW + ANGLED WINDOW — HOW SHOULD THE CURTAINS BE DONE?

When people see this type of window, their first reaction is usually:

“The window has this shape, so the curtain should follow the same shape.”

Of course, you can do it that way.

The biggest advantage is 👉 you can keep the bay-window area open for placing things.

But when I design curtains for my customers, I actually prefer to recommend a straight curtain! 😊

Why?

Because when the curtain follows the shape of the angled window and bay window, it can be more likely to create light gaps.

Especially at night, when you’re lying in bed, you may suddenly notice:

😅 A little light leaking here
😅 A little light leaking there
😅 More light coming through in some areas
😅 Less light in other areas

When placing the order, customers may say:

“A little bit of light leakage is okay!”

But…

Once everything is installed and you’re lying in bed at night:

“Eh? Why is there light coming in here?” 😂

Some bay windows are not perfectly level,
and even the ceiling may have slight level differences.

When the curtain follows the exact shape of the window, these small differences can make the gaps more noticeable.

👉 So my recommendation? Make the curtain STRAIGHT!

A straight curtain gives you:

✅ Better overall blackout
✅ Fewer light-gap problems
✅ Better privacy
✅ A cleaner and neater appearance

Of course, there is one trade-off…

You won’t be able to use the entire bay-window area like an open shelf anymore.

But honestly…

Does a bay window really have to be filled with lots of things to be considered “not wasted”? 🤣

You can actually keep it simple and still make it beautiful:

🌿 Small potted plants
🌸 Fresh or dried flowers
🪴 Succulents
🕯️ Diffusers & candles
📚 A few favourite books
🖼️ Small photo frames
🎍 Small decorations or artwork
☕ A tea set or coffee cup
🧸 Small toys
💡 A small bedside lamp
🌱 Small herb plants
🪴 Indoor plants that can tolerate lower light

You can even turn it into a little:

“Window-Side Corner” ✨

Sunlight during the day,
curtains at night,
and a few simple plants…

You don’t need to fill the whole space.
Sometimes, less actually looks better. 😍

So, for a bay window + angled window, should you follow the window shape or make the curtain straight?

There is no single answer.

It really depends on what you care about more:

👉 Using the bay-window space

OR

👉 Better blackout + privacy + less light leakage

If it were my own home and I wanted a good night’s sleep…

I’d choose the straight curtain. 😆

Because…

You can put fewer things on the bay window,
but once you notice light leaking into your bedroom at night…

You’ll keep staring at it and getting more annoyed! 😂
